It seriously sucks to get sick. I usually try to do everything I can to avoid a sickness. When the seasons change or when others around me get sick, I know it is only a matter of time before I get it. Working in an office setting almost always guarantees that I am going to get my neighbors cold.

We can’t always prevent a sickness, however, below are some of the things I do on a normal basis, or when I am in danger of getting a sickness that helps.

  • Multivitamin – I take my multivitamin daily. This helps to keep my body balanced. My anatomy and physiology professor in college said, “You are sick when your immune system becomes out of balance”. For some reason that was one of the only things I remember from his class. It stuck with me. So to keep your system in balance, take your multivitamin.

  • Lemon / Ginger Tea – I love tea while I am sick. It helps me feel better almost instantly. Ginger and lemon are great to help with recovery and ease stomach pain.

  • Homemade chicken noodle soup – I love to make homemade chicken noodle soup to eat while I am sick. Of course, you can always buy store-bought chicken noodle soup, but I want something without all the processed junk that could hurt my immune system even more. This recipe includes Organic chicken, gluten-free noodles, organic chicken bone broth, veggies (I use carrots, celery, and sometimes broccoli), and some spices.

  • Elderberry & Zinc – This is a staple for us. We keep these on hand and take them leading up to an event where we will be around a lot of people, where we've been around someone who is sick, or when we get sick. These will shorten the time you are sick drastically. HERE are the ones we use.

  • Rest – It’s always good to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, but when you’re sick you need even more. Getting in those extra zzz’s will really help with sickness recovery.

  • Water – You want to always get at least half your body weight, in ounces, of water a day. Make sure you are doing this while sick. Getting in plenty of liquids will help with the recovery process. On top of the water, try coconut water for the electrolytes. Of course, other alternatives to coconut water provide electrolytes, but coconut water is a natural source. It has the necessary electrolytes and won’t give you those fake sugars that are in sports drinks. Save half or share with someone else to cut down on the natural sugar.
